Individual therapy starts with developing a full understanding of what you're experiencing, what you need, and what your goals are. I will determine a diagnosis if appropriate, and create a treatment plan with you in mind.
Alongside helping you develop understanding of your symptoms and experiences, I will provide coping skills and strategies for change, as well as support and accountability as you work toward your goals. I’ll guide you through developing better self-awareness and understanding, and work with you to make changes so you can live the life you want.

Trauma Therapy for Adults: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
When you experience a traumatic event or have chronic exposure to traumatizing experiences, you can become frozen in a trauma response. This can impact your relationships, your physical health, your mental well-being, and your sense of self.
CPT helps you address the underlying beliefs and feelings you’ve developed about yourself due to trauma. Within the safety of a therapeutic relationship, using CPT you’ll be able to change your mindset around who you are, and what you’re capable of. The limiting behaviors and beliefs that trauma brings will fall away, and you’ll be able to rebuild your sense of self to reflect who you truly are.
CPT can help with trauma from:
Abuse
Neglect
Injuries and illnesses
Grief and loss
Assault
Natural disasters
Accidents
Childhood experiences
Combat experiences
Harm in the workplace
Bigotry and discrimination
Sexual violence
Trauma Therapy for Kids: (TF-CBT)
Children can, and unfortunately do, regularly experience traumatizing events. They can be random, like a car accident, or targeted, such as abuse from a parent.
One of the best ways to help a child who has experienced trauma is to get them therapist support, especially from a therapist who is trauma-informed. Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) is a therapy that helps your child face and cope with their experiences. Sessions are structured to suit your child’s attention span and learning style, and includes you as the parent as a major part of the process.
You can help rebuild a sense of safety for your child with support from a TF-CBT therapist.
Reunification therapy can help with:
Court ordered family therapy after a high conflict divorce
Parental alienation
Estrangement
Abuse, violence, or neglect
Return to the family after foster care
Inter-child abuse or violence
Separation due to mental health concerns

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to some commonly asked questions about individual therapy. Feel free to get in touch with any additional questions you might have, I’m happy to provide answers.
-
Our first session will be 90 minutes, and include a complete biopsychosocial assessment, so I can best understand where you have been, where you are at, and where you would like to be in life.
After this first session, future sessions will take 50 or 80 minutes and include checking in to see how the week went and then working toward your therapeutic goals. This may include exercises or activities, to support things like emotional processing, understanding your trauma, and developing coping skills.
-
I pair rigorous professional standards with a real, vested interest in helping people. I bring empathy and expertise to therapy sessions in equal amounts.
I am open-minded and inclusive, including working with trauma clients and LGBTQIA2+ individuals. I take pride in accepting people where they are, so they can best accept and understand themselves. I am not interested in judging you, just understanding and helping with the skills and knowledge I have developed through years as a therapist.
I find people do better when they learn and understand more about themselves, seeking out a meaning-driven life of purpose. I am committed to helping you find that life.

This varies from person to person and if services are court-ordered.
If your approach to therapy is very goal-focused, we can work on specific issues for a set amount of time. Once your goals are met, sessions will end, and you’ll continue work on your own. It is always an option, however, to return to therapy when needed.
If you feel that a supportive therapeutic relationship with a trusted provider will serve you for a longer time period, I am happy to work with you in that way as well.

In therapy started voluntarily, without a court-order, everything you share will be confidential. It is ethically and legally required, and a standard I am proud to meet rigorously. There are exceptions, in the case of expressing a desire to self-harm, that I will discuss with you before we begin.
In the case of court-ordered therapy, I may be required to share details of our sessions with a judge, depending on the circumstances of the court order. This will be explained to you before we begin, so you understand fully.
